Grant and his family, who brought a stable image of peace, domestic affection, and the good life to a nation shaken by war, assassination, and a presidential impeachment trial. The boy on the rocking horse is made of hand painted cold-cast porcelain. The figure is surrounded by a gold-plated brass wreath with enameled colors. Adorning the wreath are toys of the Industrial Revolution era, and a steam locomotive. Washington's Fancy Goods stores sold these types of toys during the Grant administration (1869-1877).
